Study on an Imaging System for Online Dosimetry in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy
An experimental test version of an online dosimetry imagining system for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) has been designed, by applying the principles of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography to measuring the 478 keV photons from the 10B(n,α)7Li reaction.  A test version of the system was created and a high-boron concentration phantom was irradiated with low-flux neutrons from the 7Li(p,n)7Be reaction that is proposed for accelerator-based BNCT.  Monte Carlo methods are used to extrapolate the data to the low boron concentration and high-fluence settings of a clinical BNCT setting, and the expected image produced under actual BNCT settings has been predicted.  Furthermore, improvements to the system that would allow it to successfully work under BNCT settings are discussed.
