The 6th International Symposium and Seminar on Global Nuclear Human Resources Development for Safety, Security and Safeguards
From February 20 through March 3, 2017 at Ookayama Campus, Tokyo Tech, the Academy held the 6th International Symposium and Seminar related to “Nuclear safety”. Tokyo Tech is conducting the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Agent Cultivation Program in order to develop professionals who will serve as global leaders in industry-government-academic fields related to nuclear power.

This symposium and seminar consisted of two parts. In the former part of the event, highly renowned experts invited from Japan and overseas delivered lectures on safety-related themes. Invited students and young professionals attending the Symposium and Seminar then visited Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine of Hiroshima University, Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in order to deepen their understanding of the radiation effects on human beings. Also they visited Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor “Monju”in Tsuruga City and learnt about fundamentals, components and maintenance of fast breeder reactors with hands-on experiences.

In the latter part, students and young professionals inspired by the lectures held discussions and presentations regarding global issues under the 2 themes; i.e., severe accident and final disposal of radioactive waste, separately with 5 groups
We have a total of 15 lecturers, 17 invited students, 25 general participants and 1 media company, with totally 89 participants, including 10 DOJO students, in this Symposium and Seminar, and the event was thus successfully conducted.
