International Graduate Program
Institute of Science Tokyo offers International Graduate Programs (IGP) for qualified international students who wish to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree. Since lectures and seminars are given in English, there is no Japanese language requirement. However, students are encouraged to take Japanese language classes offered by the Institute for further enrichment. Students are allowed and also encouraged to take credits from other departments.

Before applying, each applicant is required to contact the prospective academic supervisor directly and obtain the consent of a faculty member who agrees to serve as his/her academic supervisor.
- International Graduate Program (A) – Theme Focused
This program offers English-language curricular programs organized by theme, mainly as Integrated Doctoral Education Programs (Master’s + Doctoral). Enrollment is in the fall (September) only. A limited number of applicants with outstanding academic records may be recommended by the Institute for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship.
- International Graduate Program (B)
2-1. IGP (B) Early Application
This program is for doctoral program applicants who are expected to apply for a scholarship offered by a non-Japanese government or organization before enrollment, and who need written confirmation of admission for their scholarship application. Enrollment is in the fall (September).
2-2. IGP (B) Science Tokyo – RIKEN
This doctoral program is offered jointly by Institute of Science Tokyo and RIKEN, a leading advanced research institute in Japan (https://www.riken.jp/en/). The academic supervisors will be both Science Tokyo and RIKEN professors who specialize in the field of research of the participating students, and students will conduct research activities at both Science Tokyo and RIKEN. Enrollment is in the fall (September) only.
- International Graduate Program (C) – Spring/Fall Intake
This program is for students not applying to International Graduate Program (A) or (B). Master’s, Doctoral and Integrated Doctoral Education Programs are offered, with two enrollment periods: the Spring intake (enrollment in April) and the Fall intake (enrollment in September).
